While fortune pointed out directions

We broke the tension, didn’t we?
Forged into an arrow that pierced the surface
Plundered with lines used for the wrong purpose
Our best nets filled with their good intentions
Damning each and every sentence

We left some traces, didn’t we?
For the shallows of the deepest verses
Poured on lungs that soaked up the surplus
Our return was never mentioned
Drowned before we reach the entrance

what you went looking for

So this must be the most I’ve seen you naked for a year
Although somehow I know there’s more to this as what falls on my ears
It's laden with humidity
Responses come unevenly
Between the long abandoned buildings that once stood proud now lean to listen
To the rain that angles in under the shade of an umbrella that we share
Although we both know that it’s barely large enough to cover up what you’re thinking of

So this must be the most I’ve seen you naked in a year
Although somehow I know there’s more to this and what fell on your ear
Was not just hair that's black and similes
Woven in many braids
I’ve tried to count behind the counter like the bubbles in the lemonade
On hands that make strange animal when they are misplaced
Between the lights of a veranda and a sea of jacarandas by the lake that we went looking for

This town might have more to offer than you may have first considered
And it’s more than the two of us who are up to our necks in it

Eyes can fall so heavily
Like curtains that were made
To keep the sun out in the morning and the warmth in when it's raining and you won't look for more
